live biodata sonification practice ·
ECG electrodes attached to plants capture continuous micro-fluctuations in their bioelectric activity, shaped live into ambient, evolving soundscapes — sound design that grows with the plant beside it.
Archive of live sets and studio experiments, growing as new roots take hold.
More on bandcamp.
A plant is chosen for each set. Sometimes it's a houseplant brought from home, sometimes it's whatever is growing next to the stage — wild nettles, ferns, the tree above. The plant becomes the guide of the flow — its bioelectric activity triggers the notes; the sound is shaped around them.
ECG electrodes attached to the leaves, or other parts of it, capture continuous micro-fluctuations in bioelectric activity. A biodata sonification device translates those fluctuations into MIDI across five channels and routes them into Ableton Live, where each channel drives a different instrument.
Throughout the set, threshold sensitivity is adjusted in real time to regulate the density of MIDI signals. The plant triggers; the effect chains and modulation are dialed in live across the channels — choosing which instruments speak, when, and how. Instrument combinations change over time, responding to the variability of the plant signals and the intentional reconfiguration of signal pathways and scales.
The structure emerges live, from the interplay between plant activity, environmental context, and decisions made at the desk.
The flagship format. Anna performs live with a plant — brought from home or chosen at the venue — wired to ECG electrodes. The set unfolds in real time, shaped by the plant's bioelectric activity and live signal-shaping. Typical length: 30–60 minutes. Suitable for festivals, gallery openings, listening events, and concerts.
A continuous, low-key version of the live set, designed to fill a space rather than command attention. Built for openings, dinners, exhibitions, retreats, ceremonies, or any event where ambient sound is part of the room. Length is flexible — from one hour to a full evening. The plant is still the source.
Custom soundtracks, jingles, and scoring — for video, film, podcasts, brand identities, installations, or any other use. Composed using the same biodata-driven process, then refined and produced for the final medium. Get in touch with the brief and timeline.

A small playground. Tune the site to your season, or generate cover art in the PlantBient style — go ahead, get your hands in the soil.
Choose a palette — your choice is remembered. Spring is the default; the others are quieter moods.
A small generative tool: organic line fields rendered live, in the project's visual language. Tune the parameters, regenerate seeds, download a 1400 × 1400 PNG. Use it for moodboards, profile art, or just for the fun of it.
